The ExpertVerse Executive Interview with Dr. Sravya Donepudi

ExpertVerse Magazine: What inspired you to specialize in Pediatrics, and what continues to drive your passion daily?

Dr. Sravya: Pediatrics is unique because you are protecting a life right at its beginning. The ability to help a child heal, reach their developmental milestones, and grow into a healthy adult is incredibly rewarding. Those tiny smiles and the trust parents place in us drive my dedication every day.

ExpertVerse Magazine: What is the biggest misconception parents have regarding common childhood illnesses like colds and coughs?

Dr. Sravya: The most common misconception is that every cough or cold requires aggressive treatment or immediate nebulization. Nebulizers deliver medication directly to the lungs and are specifically for conditions like asthma, bronchospasm, or pneumonia. Simple seasonal viral colds usually require supportive care, rest, hydration, and medical observation rather than over-medication.

ExpertVerse Magazine: Why do you place so much emphasis on the “First 1,000 Days” of a child’s life?

Dr. Sravya: The first 1,000 days, from conception through a child’s second birthday, form the foundation for brain development, immunity, and lifelong metabolic health. Proper nutrition, timely vaccination, and attentive developmental tracking during this window pay health dividends for a lifetime.

ExpertVerse Magazine: How do you address nutrition and diet guidance for modern parents dealing with picky eaters?

Dr. Sravya: Nutrition must be stage-appropriate and stress-free. I advise parents to focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods while eliminating early exposure to excess sugars, sodium, and ultra-processed snacks. Feeding should be a positive experience built on consistency rather than pressure.

ExpertVerse Magazine: What is your vision for the future of pediatric healthcare and parent education?

Dr. Sravya: My vision is to deliver evidence-based, compassionate care where clinical excellence meets empathetic parent communication. We want every family to feel fully supported in an environment focused on child safety, accurate diagnosis, and sustainable wellness.

From the Questions She Hears Most

Some of the most meaningful clinical insights emerge directly from the questions parents bring into the consultation room. Here, Dr. Sravya addresses the concerns she encounters most frequently in her practice:

Is it normal for my child to fall sick frequently?
Yes, especially in the first few years of life. Children commonly experience repeated viral infections as their immune systems develop. However, unusually severe, persistent, or recurrent infections need medical evaluation.

Should I give antibiotics for every fever or cold?
No. Most childhood colds and many fevers are caused by viruses, against which antibiotics do not work. Antibiotics should be used only when indicated by a doctor.

Doctor, Is my child eating enough?
Every child’s appetite varies. If your child is active, growing appropriately, and following their growth curve, occasional variations in appetite are usually normal. Persistent poor appetite or poor weight gain needs evaluation.

My child is underweight. Should I give nutritional supplements?
Not every underweight child needs supplements. A pediatrician should assess the child’s growth chart, diet, feeding habits, and possible underlying causes before recommending treatment.

How can I improve my child’s immunity?
There is no single medicine that boosts immunity in every child. A balanced diet, adequate sleep, regular physical activity, recommended vaccinations, and good hygiene help support normal immune function.
